UNPLUG!
April 29 - May 5

Screen Free Week
According to Campaign for a Commercial Free Childhood, preschoolers spend an average of 32 hours each week sitting in front of a screen - and older children, even more. TV, video games, computers, smart phones - so much of today's popular entertainment keeps kids inside, in a chair, inactive, indefinitely.  Now where's the fun in that for your dog?
Doctors, scientists, parents and dogs all know that kids need to be outdoors and active on a daily basis to be healthy, happy and successful in life.
So ditch your digital and reach for a leash. Have your dog lead you outside and into adventure, and then continue on from there. Encourage your whole pack to unplug and join you. One Screen-Free Week can turn you on to a whole different brand of entertainment that will never become obsolete. Click here to find Screen-Free events in your area.

Time To Thank Your Pal

National Pet Month
We love our pets, don't we? Today, the majority of American households open their hearts and their homes to a pet. Many, however, probably don't realize just how their pets can mean to them:
   - lower blood pressure and heart rate
   - lower cholesterol
   - reduced anxiety and stress
   - increased socialization
   - increased survival rates
   - stronger immunity systems
In fact, studies at UCLA found a connection between pet ownership and overall better health – and as many as 21 percent fewer trips to the doctor!

Yip! Yip! Yipee!

A Perfect Day For A Hike
June 21, 2013

The Summer Solstice, the first day of summer, is the longest day of the year. That means on June 21, you'll have the most daylight possible in which to enjoy a family hike.
Plan your hike the week before, and pack your snacks and supplies early (don't forget the same for your furry pal)! Then make it a long, lazy summer day filled with nature from daybreak to dusk.

Awesome Video
on Hiking With Dogs

courtesy of Vermont's
Green Mountain Club
Filmed along Vermont's Green Mountain "Long Trail," this special video series on hiking with dogs is another great resource for dog-loving trail hounds.*  You can view more in this Hiking With Dogs Video Series here.

*While these videos address hiking with dogs off-leash (and the inherent risks that entails), Kids Hike, Dogs Hike recommends that you always keep you pal securely on leash, for the safety and  enjoyment of pets, hikers, and wildlife.
